Night Guards
Do you find yourself clenching or grinding your teeth? As people grind their teeth, they slowly wear the outer surface of enamel away on both the upper and lower teeth. The teeth become flattened, losing the shape and function of the biting surface. A night guard is an oral appliance that is worn at night to reduce the wear on natural teeth. By wearing a night guard, it may save the natural teeth from fracturing or chipping. A night guard hopefully reduces the risk of multiple teeth needing crowns due to fractures.
Sports Guards
Professional athletes wear custom-made sports guards because they understand the importance of protecting their smiles. Custom sports guards are made by taking an impression and fabricating a rubber guard that is a perfect fit over your natural teeth. Depending on the sport, we can change the thickness of the sports guard. If your sport requires a helmet, then we can even have an attachment strap that connects to the guard.
TMJ/TMD Appliance
TMD (temporomandibular disorder) oral appliances can differ based on the severity of the disorder. A device may give some pain relief and can even aid in stiffness with the joint. An oral appliance that helps with clenching and grindings may help and also reduce symptoms caused by TMD. To begin, the TMJ Association explains that a flat plane hard acrylic splint may aid in the relief of symptoms. Call for a consultation and begin the evaluation process for future treatment.
