ROOT CANAL

Root Canals

Why do I need a Root Canal?

Root canals are performed to clean and prepare the interior of the tooth (the pulp). The pulp contains the blood supply and the main nerve source for the tooth that may be infected, damaged, or decayed. A root canal allows the ability to preserve the affected tooth and avoid additional pain or an extraction.

How is a Root Canal done?

After the pulp is removed, the canal is shaped and sterilized. Each canal is filled and sealed to the tip of each root and prepared for a new crown.

Can Root Canals be avoided?

In rare cases, a nerve in a tooth can die and become painful for no apparent reason. Often decay, cracked teeth, or years of multiple restorations can cause the nerve to die and start to become painful.  If the tooth becomes symptomatic, a patient’s options are a root canal or extraction. Root canals preserve the tooth while extractions (last resort) eliminate the immediate discomfort.
